The MillionDollarGreenPage, by championing environmentally-friendly business and green charities, aims to raise a million dollars to support a team expedition going from Totnes, Devon, England (Transition Town headquarters - www.transitiontowns.org) by sustainable travel (bicycle) to Tokyo, Japan (where Transition Town no. 100 was just created). The "Be the Change symposium" which was developed by www.awakeningthedreamer.org and www.bethechange.org.uk will be given in every major city along the length of the expedition by the six participants.

CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is the biggest threat facing humankind, polar ice caps are melting; glaciers are shrinking; and extreme weather events are becoming increasingly frequent. Many scientists believe that if we do not take dramatic action now climate change will be irreversible within 10-15 years. We need to go carbon-free, and fast.

Damage to, and destruction of, the natural environment for wild animals, fish and plants are weakening the food chain on which ultimately all human life depends and rob nature of its diversity. The damage to the environment across the world poses huge challenges to us all. Forty per cent of species in Europe are threatened with extinction; fish stocks across much of the globe are declining beyond the point of sustainability; the rainforest and other key habitats are being lost at a rapid rate. Some scientists are forecasting another Great Extinction.

Moreover, increasing pollution into water bodies and deep aquifers is building up new problems for human populations in some parts of Australia, Central Europe, and China for instance, who are dependent upon siphoning off such underground reservoirs. And continued construction of dams is having serious consequences too.

My name is Christopher Le Breton. I am the founder and conceiver of this site. I have developed this green site concept with the support and input of friends and family across green and ethical sectors.

The environmental crisis gets more acute, as the world wakes up to climate change. Is there a future for us on this planet? There is.

However we will have to get to much smaller  carbon footprints. Then it occurred to me what was missing was a  simple, green internet portal where all green companies could be represented, alongside other green organisations such as charities. A new environmental site easy to use, simple to understand, and with no long-winded texts to wade through!  

A million dollars to go green is just the beginning. However it is a start. The first carbon step. This site reaches all communities and countries around the planet making a difference through your choices as consumers.

And the money is used to pay for a series of environmental training courses (the Be the Change Symposium) that will be carried out in 2009-10 between Totnes and Tokyo.

Go to the Buy/Purchase section, and follow the instructions given to register your company or organisation (e.g. charity) then type in the website address for your green product or green website. Add the key words which best categorise the products and services you offer. Determine what size of image you want to post on the MillionDollarGreenPage, as described in the Buying Process.
 
Then pay for those pixels, and follow the instructions about how to upload the advertising image in the correct size and format to the greenpage.

Nice idea, but no. The administration of this would be just too difficult. The minimum number of pixels you can buy is one hundred. This costs $100.

The MillionDollarGreenPage will be monitored and evaluated regularly to check that it serves green business, green charities and green consumers. Once it is full, it is full, and will remain a record for the present and foreseeable future of who are the entrepreneurs and companies in the vanguard of saving the planet for humankind.

Advertisements are placed on the site  for posterity.  They can be changed and adapted as the products and services of the suppliers and charities change. 

The idea of a MillionDollarGreenPage is a GREEN page, a new sustainable concept, which aims to raise attention to green issues, and support green companies and green charities across the planet. By doing well, we can do good:  greening the thumb of the invisible hand! Go Green with one click of your mouse!

How long has the company/charity been in operation? We prefer a minimum of at least 3 years.  But if you are an exception, inspire us to accept  you:

1. Do the Directors have compelling qualifications to back up their claim to be a green organisation? o
2. Is there clear evidence on their website showing what they have done, or are doing to improve the environment?
3. Have they been endorsed by a reputable industry or charitable body such as the UK's Soil Association, Ethical Junction or any other similarly appropriate body?

Green Businesses must be providing products or offering services that clearly show an environmental  dimension to them. Their articles of Association and/or the company’s mission statement needs to demonstrate a clear mention of this dimension. Ideally, the company will have been trading for more than 3 years.    Where trading less than 3 years, please contact us directly if you are convinced of your green credentials, and you can demonstrate them transparently.

Green charities must be registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales or or an equivalent and appropriate body in Scotland, Northern Ireland or elsewhere. Such charities must have a purpose that clearly demonstrates  a strong positive environmental dimension.

When advertisers apply to the MillionDollarGreenPage to post the link to their own green  website, they are asked to select keywords best describing their products and services  from an existing drop-down list.

If this list is not comprehensive enough, they can also suggest  other words they consider best represeents their product/service.  We check to ensure that the words are suitable and convey a meaning not covered in the existing key words in which case we add the new word(s) to the search facility.
